Wondering what to do if it rains on your wedding day? First, don’t panic. As Georgia wedding planners, we have seen our share of rain (and a lot of close calls!). It is completely normal to watch the weather forecast change hourly weeks (or months) before your wedding day. Today, we are going to share a few things you should do if it does rain on your wedding day.
Before you start hyperventilating, you should know that in 9 years of wedding planning, we rarely find ourselves rained out for the entire day. More than likely, we will be able to find a quick moment to sneak outside and take at least a few dreamy outdoor wedding pictures (or stand outside for a short and sweet wedding ceremony). This is why you hire a wedding planner ya’ll! With that said, we thought we would share a few tips to leave you calm and collected on your wedding day even if it does rain….
Did we forget to introduce ourselves?! That’s not like us! If you are new to our corner of the internet, we are thrilled that you have found us! As Georgia wedding planners, you can learn more about our wedding planning services here – or contact us here to save your date and start the planning process. If there is anything we have learned in the last year? YOU DON’T WANT TO PLAN YOUR WEDDING ALONE. Trust your investment (emotional and financial) with a professional.
Not something you’ll settle for. Repeat: not something you’ll settle for (we don’t believe in that around here!). The first step to combatting anxiety over rain on your wedding day is having a wedding backup plan that you love. If you are looking for wedding venue inspiration, you can start here where we rounded up a few of our favorite Georgia and North Carolina wedding venues. We always recommend hiring a wedding planner before you book a venue, but if you want some advice on choosing a wedding venue you love, you can also check out this post here.
Do NOT forget to ask about the backup location (and make sure it’s one you can live with!). Having a backup plan will make it easier to make the right decision on your wedding day and in some cases – not wait too long. Trust a wedding planner here! We have backups for our backups.
For you, your wedding party, and your guests. If you are having an outdoor wedding no matter what, don’t wait until 2 weeks – or two hours – before your wedding day to try to get them reserved. Clear umbrellas are not only practical, they are absolutely dreamy in photos. They may not work in a torrential downpour, but they will definitely work for a classic North Georgia sprinkle!
If it was raining before your ceremony or reception and you’ve decided to continue outdoors (or if there is a path to the indoor wedding location), be incredibly mindful of slippery surfaces! In situations like this, it is SO nice to have a wedding planner (and assistants) to help greet your guests and remind them to watch their step (and occasionally walk with elderly guests who may need a little extra assistance). Consider having signage made as well to keep everyone safe! Nothing ruins a wedding more than a bad slip and fall.
I’m SURE you all have noticed a pattern: if you are worried about rain on your wedding day, hire a wedding planner. In 9 years of experience, rain is MILD in the course of what can go wrong on a wedding day (sorry but it’s the truth!). You need to be prepared for anything and more than that – sometimes you just need (several) extra sets of hands. If you are getting married in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina or beyond, make sure to get in touch here.
